The Power of Persuasion: Communications in the Stay/Leave Debate’

15 April 2016

At the evening debate on 10 May we will be looking at how communication is used in the EU Stay/Leave debate and we have an interesting line up of panel members.  ‘The Power of Persuasion: Communications in the Stay/Leave Debate’ will be hosted by Instinctif.

14 June will be a busy day with both our popular summer party being held in the evening at Olswang’s wonderful roof terrace, and also our lunchtime meeting at AXA, with guest speaker Joel Hills, ITV News.  Book soon, as our events have been very popular, and with comments for our last speaker Kirsty Good, Sky News, it is not surprising the meetings are popular:

“I thought Kirsty was excellent – one of the most engaging speakers I have heard in a long time” and “She was amazing – thank you for arranging”

Details of events are below – please make sure you book early to avoid disappointment – speakers for the first half of the year are listed at the end, together with the summer party – a great networking event that is always very popular.

CIPR Corporate and Financial Group debate: ‘The Power of Persuasion: Communications in the Stay/Leave Debate’

10th May, 6 for 6:30pm, Instinctif Partners, 65 Gresham Street

It’s one of the most significant political decisions of our lifetime – but how good are communications by each side of the EU Referendum debate? How great is the influence of traditional vs social media in this very modern debate? How far can we trust the polls, given our experience with the UK General Election 2015?

Join us for our annual panel debate, chaired by Philip Coggan of The Economist. Panellists will include Deborah Mattinson (Britain Thinks); Andy Wigmore (Head of Communications Director, Leave.EU) and Anthony Hilton (Evening Standard).

CIPR Corporate and Financial Group lunchtime meeting:  Joel Hills, Business Editor, ITV News

14th June, 12.30 for 1:00pm, AXA, 5 Old Broad Street.

We are pleased to welcome Joel Hills as our speaker on the 14 June.  Joel has been at the forefront of broadcast journalism for over 15 years.

He spent 11 years at Sky News, first as a general reporter before being appointed Business Presenter, where he gained recognition for his original journalism and breaking major stories including the Game Group administration and the fact that Bradford and Bingley would not survive as an independent bank.

Before joining Sky News, Joel worked as a reporter and presenter for ITV Central, having started his career there as a trainee, taking the BT Regional Media Award for Best Newcomer in 2001.

Joel moved to his current role as Business Editor at ITV News in March 2014, where he leads the business coverage and provides in-depth analysis of the latest business stories on the agenda, both in the UK and around the world.

We have a mixture of individual and group bookings, but it is a great opportunity for members of the industry to meet informally over drinks and canapés.   In the past we have had an excellent cross section of the industry attending. Whether you are new to the industry and want to meet new contacts, or more experienced and want to network with your peers, this is an event not to be missed.

Precise rebrands as Kantar Media

You may have spotted that our long-term media monitoring and analysis partner Precise rebranded as Kantar Media. This follows Precise joining the Kantar Media group of companies in June 2014, with the Precise team managing the Kantar Media operations in the UK and US.

Precise have asked us to explain to our members that the change relates purely to branding. There is no change to their services, your contacts or any contractual arrangements.

What may be interesting and useful to know is that the Precise team of 500 in London is now working more closely with their colleagues across the US, Europe and Asia, so they can help you access more effective global media coverage and analysis. And that through their Kantar colleagues, they can access additional consumer and stakeholder research to provide a broader understanding of corporate reputation.

If you do have any questions for the Precise team at Kantar Media, you can use their existing contact details or write to Emma Trim
