Comment from your Chairman
We’ve had a busy February with the lunchtime talk from Siobhan Kennedy of Channel 4 News, providing particular insight on how to approach TV business news effectively. Then the CIPR Corporate and Financial Group was pleased to support a practitioner roundtable discussion on the use – or not - of social media for crisis communications in the B2B environment. You will be able to see some of the highlights of this on the website of Communicate magazine in due course.
In other news, our visit programme is developing well for 2014. We held a successful visit to Sky News in early February despite the floods and tube strike in London. The entire visit group were able to attend one of two editorial meetings during the morning; Dafydd Rees, Head of Sky’s Business Unit, also gave a very useful insight to the group over refreshments after the tour. I know that many of you were disappointed not to have been quick enough off the mark to get a place this time, and we are pleased to say Sky News will be offering two additional dates this year for those of you still on the waiting list. If you would like to be added to the list for these visits please email email@example.com .
The CIPR Corporate and Financial Group is stretching its wings beyond the M25, too - details will shortly be announced of a visit to Salford and MediaCity – make sure you are a member of the Corporate and Financial Group as members receive preference on these visits. We would also like your views on whether a visit to the European Commission in Brussels would be of interest. We are considering whether such a visit would have sufficient support to be viable, so do let us know if this would be of interest to you.
Looking ahead to the summer, our AGM will be held prior to our summer party on 10 June. The AGM is held at 5.45pm at the offices of Olswang in High Holborn, and all members of the CIPR Corporate and Financial Group are welcome to attend. Afterwards we move straight into the Summer Party – an annual highlight of the Group’s calendar.
Finally, I hope I may see some of you at the Maggie Nally lecture at the Houses of Parliament this evening, an event which is organised by the CIPR International Group. The Maggie Nally Memorial Lecture has become an important fixture on the annual communications calendar, attracting leading personalities from the in-house and agency world. This year Rob Flaherty, Senior Partner, CEO and President of Ketchum, has agreed to give the keynote address, "The End of Illusion".

Twilight debate - “Peer to peer – disruptive and here” – 1 April 2014
As peer to peer lending takes an increasingly important role within the financial ecosystem, we bring together a panel of financial experts and pioneers in the sector to explore the potential benefits offered by peer to peer lending platforms.
