Our last event of the year is our visit to the BBC which takes place on Tuesday 8 December – we are limited to 10 places and demand is usually strong so book early – details are below.

We will also be holding our last lunchtime meeting of the year this month next Tuesday 10 November – it looks like a sell out so if you want to listen to David Wighton, City Editor, Wall Street Journal Europe, please book soon, or put your name on the wait list (email as we often have last minute cancellations.  Our 2016 programme is taking shape, and our first six months of next year are confirmed.  The programme starts with David Smith, Economics Editor at the Sunday Times, on Tuesday 12 January 2016 – organise your year early and book now.

BBC Visit

Event: Visit to the BBC

Cost: £70 for Corporate and Financial Group members (non members can join the group); This visit has been subsidised by the Corporate and Financial Group.

The CIPR Corporate and Financial Group invites you to tour the BBC Newsroom at BBC Broadcasting House, the state of the art, multimedia broadcasting centre on Tuesday 8th December. We will be shown round the newsroom and learn how the news programmes are put together.  We hope to meet the Duty Producer, see the Weather Centre, meet someone in the One Show studio, and possibly see the Radio Drama studio if available. There will be an appropriate person to talk about the operation and answer any questions that you might have at each stage. We hope that some senior journalists will be able to join us for a short Q&A session over drinks. Kamal Ahmed, Business Editor and Hugh Pym, formerly Business Correspondent and now Health Editor have both said they hope to join us, depending on commitments.

Attendees have thoroughly enjoyed the visit in the past, and vouch for it being a fun event.  As places are strictly limited to 10 people, you are strongly advised to secure your booking with payment as soon as possible. This is a Members priority event (non members who want to attend should join the group or email to go on the waiting list should spaces become available).

As a guide, you can see last year's itinerary on Eventbrite before booking  (this will be amended for this year).  We hope to be able to replicate the visit from last year, but this is an open plan, live broadcast area.

Time: 12.30pm for 1 o'clock (sandwich lunch will be served)

Cost: £15 for Corporate and Financial Group members; £20 for non-members on the first occasion and £25 for subsequent meetings.

Lunchtime meetings £15 for members; guests £25.  Booking forms can be found on our website.

Early bookings are advised as there are occasions when the events are fully booked. Members have priority for some events.


Money saving and CPD 

You can buy a book of vouchers for the speaker lunches and make a 10 per cent saving. You are entitled to 5 CPD points for attending the meetings, too.


We welcome new members so please let others in the PR world know about the CIPR Corporate and Financial Group (contact Sue Owen for details).  We continue to offer free attendance at meetings to members who are between jobs.

The Corporate and Financial Group exists to provide you with:

  • access - to leaders in business, the media, and the City, at our events
  • networking - amongst our peer group and other senior practitioners
  • guidance on best practice - particularly on matters which directly support the credibility and effectiveness of our profession in delivering value to senior decision makers in business and corporate life
  • representation - on regulatory issues or other matters affecting our collective licence to operate, acting as an authoritative voice for our profession.

Our events include our regular lunchtime meetings (usually the second Tuesday of the month), our annual summer party and annual dinner, visits to places like 10 Downing Street, the Guardian, the BBC and Sky News, best practice seminars, and events for those new to the industry (Tomorrow’s Talent).
