2013 dates for the diary
Comment from your Chairman
I hope it’s not too late to wish you all a Happy New Year! Welcome to our 2013 programme. We hope to see many of you at our special lunchtime meeting on Tuesday 29 January with Lucas Van Praag – this rare London opportunity is one not to miss as Lucas is usually based in New York. He is the former global head of communications at Goldman Sachs, and now runs LvP & Associates LLC, providing strategic communication counsel. I’m interested to hear a man with a reputation for candour on the state of both the PR industry and the world economy.
We also have a few places left for our panel discussion on the evening of Wednesday 23 January chaired by Simon Lewis with panellists Angela Knight, Baroness Valentine, Ian King and Karina Litvack: “Does the UK economy have the financial services sector it deserves?”- the panellists will explore the perceived disconnect between the financial services sector and the real economy in the UK.
Simon Nixon, European Editor for The Wall Street Journal’s Heard on the Street is our next regular lunchtime speaker on Tuesday 12 February – please book here. We will also be adding events during the year as they are confirmed so look out for them. Full details of the events we have confirmed so far are on our website: www.corporate-financial.com.
This is the time of subscription renewals for many of you – for information about membership options please contact Sue Owen.

Lucas van Praag, former global head of communications at Goldman Sachs has agreed to
speak at the next CIPR Corporate & Financial Group lunch (29 January) during one of his rare visits to London. Lucas is recognisably one of the savviest and most respected PRs around. With a reputation for being robustly sharp-tongued, witty and shrewd, he was the cult-figure defender of Goldmans for some 12 years. Given his role at the heart of this iconic bank he should be interesting and illuminating about life there during both the global markets boom and subsequent bust.
